Hanna-Leena Alakomi

Hanna-Leena Alakomi works as senior scientist at VTT Technical Research Centre of Finland Ltd in the area of Solutions for Natural Resources and Environment in Food and Process Microbiology team. She has 25 year experience in applied microbiology with educational background in food sciences and food microbiology (PhD, food sciences, University of Helsinki, 2007). Her work has focused on food safety, control of harmful microbes and production technology of probiotic bacteria. She is interested about the versatile role microbes play in the ecosystem and how they affect our daily life, health and wellbeing. She is a IPMA C certified project manager and has been working as project manager in several national and international R&D projects. She has 50 peer-reviewed scientific publications.

Tomi Erho

M.Sc. Tomi Erho works as a Principal Scientist in VTT’s Research Area Biomass processing and products. Due to his experiences in entrepreneurial activity his main tasks relate to business development of VTT’s research results and IPR portfolio. He has worked at VTT since year 2000 in multiple positions including positions as a Team Leader, Business Development Manager and Head of Research Area. In 2013 he was one of the founders of a VTT spin-off company, The Active Paper Company Oy. Prior to joining VTT he has worked in the paper industry in various R&D and technical customer service related positions. He received his M.Sc. (Eng.) degree in Graphic Arts Technology from Helsinki University of Technology in Espoo, Finland, in 1996.
